Admissions Process

  1. Complete The Online Application
  2. Upload Required Enrollment Documents
  3. Complete the Enrollment Agreement and Sign the Student Handbook via your student portal
  4. Take and pass the Entrance Test in basic English and Math (a link will be emailed to you once you apply)

Admissions and Requirements

All potential students/applicants must complete an enrollment application, engage in a personal interview with a representative (as determined by the Admissions Office), meet the basic requirements, and provide all mandatory documents to the school to be considered for admission to Hands-On Community Care School.

Parents, spouses, and other members of the student’s support system are encouraged to participate in the enrollment process. This allows applicants and their families to understand the commitment needed to successfully complete the program.

Admission Requirements and Process

  1. School Application Form
  2. Prospective student must be 16 years or older
  3. High School Diploma, its equivalent, or college transcript
  4. Complete the Basic English and Math proficiency test with a score of 80% or above
  5. Valid Photo ID (Driver’s License / State ID / Passport / Permanent Resident Card)
  6. NAT/HHA mandatory disqualifiers review (review with School Representative)
  7. Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination (at least one dose)
  8. Watch with a second hand
  9. Blood Pressure Cuff (optional, as the school provides these during clinical lab sessions)
  10. Stethoscope (optional, as the school provides these during clinical lab sessions)

Mandatory requirements before acceptance into the program includes;

  1. Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination required for admission
  2. High School Diploma, its equivalent, or college transcript
  3. Basic English and Math proficiency test (minimum score of 80%)
  4. School Application Form
  5. Valid Photo ID (Driver’s License / State ID / Passport / Permanent Resident Card)
  6. NAT/HHA mandatory disqualifiers review – review with School Representative

Mandatory requirements before Nursing Home Clinical Rotation includes;

  1. CPR / American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider Card
  2. Confirmed Criminal Background Clearance
  3. Hands-On Community Care School Physical Examination Form completed by MD/NP (prior to clinical training)
  4. Verification of Immunization (required before nursing home training):
    • PPD Skin Test (TB) – yearly
    • Chest X-Ray if PPD is positive or was positive in the past
    • Hepatitis B
    • One MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
    • Tetanus vaccine within the last 10 years
    • Confirmation of Varicella (Chickenpox) immunity

Health Requirements for the NAT/HHA Training Program

  • Students with any acute condition, pregnancy, or chronic medical issue must inform their instructor of current health status, medications, and medical needs.
  • A written statement from the student’s physician must confirm the student has no restrictions in performing program activities such as moving, lifting, or transferring a resident/patient.

Each student is encouraged to carry personal health insurance. Students are responsible for their own medical expenses, whether due to injury or illness during theory, lab, or clinical sessions.

Failure to meet health requirements may result in dismissal from the program.

  • Workbook: Nursing Assisting: Nursing Assisting: A Foundation in Caregiving, 5th Edition by Diana Dugan
  • Blood Pressure Cuff and Stethoscope
  • AHA BLS for Health Care Provider Book (read before CPR class)
  • Pen and paper; small notepad for clinical
  • Watch with a second hand
  • Transfer/gait belt (provided by the instructor)
  • Hands-On Community Care School Uniform, comfortable shoes, name pin (Hands-On picture ID)

Program Duration and Measurement

  • Program is measured in class hours. The required hours for each program must be completed at a minimum of 88 hours Didactic and 32 hours Practicum Clinical Rotation. (not including tests).

Graduation Requirements

In order to meet the graduation requirements, the student must have the following:

  • All required 88 hours of Theory Training and 32 hours of Clinical Training at a minimum
  • A grade of “C” or better in all theory modules
  • Blood pressure cuff and stethoscope
  • AHA BLS for Health Care Provided book (*Read before C.P.R. class)
